Argumentative essays are commonly assigned as part of composition 101 class.  Here are some examples of argumentative essay questions.  Look at the four examples below, and then write an outline to plan your essay.

1) It is likely that emissions legislation will limit the use of vehicles in most major cities in the world. Discuss the types of transportation which may be developed and employed as a replacement, indicating both their pro's and con's.

2) Genetic engineering is seen by many as the solution to the world’s current health crises. However, there are doubts about its safety and acceptability. Explore this issue giving an evaluation of the merits and limitations of your proposed solutions. 

3) The search is widening for renewable and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Wind, wave, and solar power are some possible solutions.  Evaluate these alternatives in terms of technological and economic feasibility.

4) Obesity is linked to the premature death of 365,000 Americans each year. The problems associated with lifestyle and diet are now being felt on a much larger national scale.  Discuss this issue and evaluate the limitations and merits of some of the possible solutions to this problem.
